Log Week 3

This week, we made a design for the case/box to place the components in and present our project clearly. We used a small cardboard box and cut out the top to place the circuit in. On one side of the box we traced outlines for the door and LED screen, then cut the areas accordingly. The door will be a small section that will swing inwards, and the lock will be locked or unlocked depending on the command.

Our circuit was also expanded to include LED lights and buttons. The LEDs track when the module is on or off, and the whole system is controlled by two buttons. One button is pressed to begin the voice recognition function, and the user has 5 seconds to speak before the attempt counts as a failure. If there are 3 failure attempts the buzzer will ring and will continue ringing until the second button is pressed.

We had some trouble with the microphone not picking up on our voices. We thought maybe the key word ‘lock’ and ‘unlock’ were too similar, so the module was having trouble differentiating the phrases, so we changed the keywords to ‘open’ and lock’. After that didn’t work, we suspected it was because of the noisy environment and testing out in a quieter room confirmed our suspicions. However, since the bench inspection will occur in a relatively loud room we have to figure out a way to fix the mic issues.
